“The people walking in darkness have seen a great light;
on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned.”
Isaiah 9:2
In a place or period of darkness, nothing brings hope like light….even the smallest beams of light, the tiniest flicker of flame, dispels darkness and bring hope. Let us bring some light to the world around us through our prayers and petitions today!
1. At a UN Forum in Sweden this week, UN chief Ban Ki-Moon has praised progress in Iraq, saying: “If we had to use one word to describe the situation in Iraq today I would choose… hope.” According to Mr. Ban, “There is new hope that the people and government of Iraq are overcoming daunting challenges and working together to rebuild their country.” Let’s pray that God will work through local and international authorities to restore peace and stability to Iraq, but more importantly that this broken people would recognize Jesus Christ as the only true HOPE for lasting peace.
2. Pray for the innocent children and youth caught in the midst of political / religious
wars, such as the six Iraqi teenagers in northern Iraq who were recently reported to being trained, against their will, to carry out suicide bombings for al Qaeda in Iraq. May the church find ways to reach out to children and youth with the love, truth and hope of Christ before negative influences and deceptive teaching lead them down a path of destruction
3. The AP regional communications team has been asked to help produce a vernacular version of “The God’s Story” video for a major unreached people group in the Southern Philippines. Ask God to give them wisdom and creativity in the process, and that God would raise up all the right translators and voice talents for this project, and that He will prepare hearts and minds to receive the truth of His story.
